If your goal is to raise a well-educated, cosmopolitan baby who will be able to compete in the global 21st century marketplace, there’s no question that language lessons for infants or toddlers will be key to their success. These days, many preschools and elementary schools are offering bilingual programs, and language classes for babies are popping up everywhere.
Unless you are already a bilingual household, making sure junior can habla espanol, parlez francais or speak Mandarin is not a cheap undertaking, but it doesn’t have to be an expensive one. The price goes up depending on the language you want your child to learn – it’s all dependent on the supply of fluent speakers in your area. For example, if you’re in a bigger city like New York, Miami or Los Angeles, it’s likely you’ll be able to easily find tutors in any language your heart desires. And because supply is high, prices will be lower. But then it may not be in your budget to pay $25 – $30 an hour for language lessons from a “professional” teacher. That’s where it pays to be creative.
